The Novice Wrestling Program is designed as an introduction for children between Kindergarten and 3rd Grade. The Novice wrestlers practice 2-3 times per week and compete in competitive exhibitions against other towns.
Season starts in November and goes until February. Practices and events are typically on Tuesday, Thursday (6:00-7:30 PM) with exhibition matches (King of the Mat) held on Saturday mornings.
The King of the Mat League is really one of the best ways to get your child exposure to competitive wrestling without all of the anxiety of being in an actual competition. There are events on Saturday during the months of December, January and February. The events typically include 2-4 towns that bring their novice wrestlers for scrimmages. Kids are matched off by Age, Weight and experience to ensure there are no unpleasant incidents.
More experienced novice wrestlers in the program are often given the opportunity to compete on the Travel team in the Northern New Jersey Youth Wrestling League (NNJYWL) and invited to other tournaments and competitions.
